What is Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is the procedure of making the part of patient’s head with hair loss hairy again by using again his/her own hair. Hair transplantation is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic operations that are used recently. Hair transplantation operations which can be defined as simple surgical operations must be performed by specialized and experienced experts.
Before the operation is performed, it must be examined how many follicles (grafts) are required for the part where such follicles will be planted and from which part of the body they will be collected and other factors should be considered as well. At this point, physicians decide on the methods to be used for hair transplantation.
What are the Methods of Hair Transplantation?
There is more than one method of hair transplantation. The most popular ones are FUE and DHI methods.

As the devices used for this operation are very sensitive, they do not require incision and allows for quick recovery. This technique lays the foundation for all of the hair transplantation methods. FUE hair transplantation method can be used for both men and women. One can have life-long natural, healthy and permanent hair with hair transplantation method.
- DHI Hair Transplantation
Likewise, in DHI method, hair follicles are collected with special pens and planted into the targeted area. As this method does not require channels to be opened for placement of hair follicles, it is planted directly and at once. This method is also known as ‘Choi technique’ that is named after the needle used.
Can Hair Transplantation Be Performed for All People?
Hair transplantation can be performed for anyone, female or male, over the age of 22 years, who experiences male pattern hair shedding and who has strong and alive hair follicles. Hair transplantation is an operation that can be performed immediately if the tests and analyzes conducted before the operation show that there is not any impediment.

How is Hair Transplantation Operation Performed?
Hair transplantation operation begins first of all with consultation and proceeds with hair analysis, blood test, identifying the natural hair line and the donor site and the recipient site. After the transplantation method that suits the patient best is determined, it is put into practice. The hair transplantation treatment takes approximately 6 to 8 hours.
Hair transplantation operation consists of five main stages:
- Determining the Hair Line and the Number of Follicles to be Planted:
During the first consultation with the hair transplantation specialist, the site of hair loss and the hair structure of the donor site are examined in detail. The hair transplantation technique that can suit the patient and the number of hair follicles that can be collected are determined. It is really important to identify the correct hair line for the patient so that hair can look natural after the operation. At this stage, the patient’s donor site capacity and the hair line s/he desires to have are evaluated and as a result an operation plan is drawn up. Patient’s final decision for the method of hair transplantation and the hairline is asked so that the hair transplantation plan can be designed.
- Preparations for the Operation:
Hair on the donor site (site of collection) and the recipient site is shaved before the hair transplantation operation and prepared for the procedure.
- Collecting Hair Follicles
The donor site is numbed through local anesthesia before hair transplantation operation. Patient does not feel any pain during the operation. Hair follicles are collected individually by use of FUE motor. It is really important that follicles are not damaged at this stage. Hair follicles which are collected from the donor site without getting damaged are separated as single, double and triple hair follicles. Hair follicles that are prepared for plantation stage are preserved in a special sterile solution.
- Opening Channels
For hair follicles to be planted into the predefined sites, small channels, where each hair follicle is to be planted, are opened in the first place. In CyprusMedi Hair Transplantation Center, sapphire blades are used for opening such channels and that allows for quick recovery. The correct size and depth of channels that are opened in proportion to their site affects the rate of hairs that grow. One must make sure that channels are opened in accordance with the size and length of the graft that will be planted. Angle of the channel must be adjusted as well in a way to give the most natural look.
- Planting Follicles in the Channels
Hair follicles of proper thickness are individually planted into the channels that are opened in accordance with the pre-designed plan at angles of 40-45 degrees in a way to give patient natural-looking and voluminous results and hair transplantation operation is completed.
The directions and angles of planted follicles in relation to one another and the scalp must be adjusted very well so that hair can look voluminous.
Hair transplantation operation takes 6 to 8 hours on average. At the end of the operation, donor site is bandaged. The list of instructions that must be followed are given to the patient. The drugs that must be taken and the shampoo and lotion that must be used after the hair transplantation are given. Medical dressing is removed one day after the operation.
